Doing the Right Thing
The movie Spartacus
tells about a slave who becomes a gladiator. Right when he becomes a gladiator,
his whole life changes. Becoming a gladiator isn’t his choice but that is how
Spartacus becomes a true legend of a brave and courageous leader. His goal is
to earn freedom for his son and other slaves that never get to feel what it is
like to be free. Spartacus is very loyal to his people. As long as he is alive,
he will fight with the Romans for justice.
After
the great slave rebellion battle, Spartacus has a tough decision to make in Rome.
With all of the slaves crucified, only Spartacus and Antoninus are left.
Outside of Crassus’ Ancestral temple, Spartacus will face something he will
never bear again. Out of all of the darkest and lonely nights, this one is the
worst that will ever occur in Spartacus’ already shortened life.
Spartacus
has a choice of killing Antoninus so he will face crucifixion or killing
himself so Antoninus will face the torture of crucifixion. Antoninus is like
the son that Spartacus thinks he will never get to meet. He can’t face the fact
that Antoninus will die this night. Spartacus just can’t kill Antoninus but he
doesn’t want Antoninus to be crucified.
Antoninus
is loved by Spartacus that Spartacus will kill Antoninus so he won’t face
crucifixion. In the ring, death awaits. Guards surround the ring like statues
holding their spears. Their armor shining in the fire and watching the
gladiator match like they don’t see anything. No expression of sadness is on
their face. A mixture of sweat and tears are tumbling down Spartacus’ face.
Finally, Spartacus makes a move and asks Antoninus to forgive him. Then,
Antoninus drops down to the floor, lifeless.
In
my opinion, Spartacus has done the right thing. He shows how much he loves
Antoninus. He knows that Antoninus is safe from Crassus’ evil doings now and is
resting in peace. When he kills Antoninus, it is better for Antoninus. Even
though Spartacus and Antoninus aren’t related, Spartacus treats Antoninus like
a true son. Spartacus is very loyal to the slaves and in return, all the slaves
and Antoninus give their trust, support and loyalty to him. Spartacus sets a
good example of a great leader. He was and still is a hero to everyone. Spartacus is a true gladiator hero.
